Important Dog Obedience Training Tips

Important Dog Obedience Training Tips

All dogs need to be properly trained.  This is not only going to make the owner’s life more easier, but the dog’s as well because then they aren’t going to be constantly yelled at and disciplined.  It’s not about being mean or cruel to a dog, it’s about teaching them how to act appropriately so they are house-trained and act proper in public places.  Dogs shouldn’t jump up on people any time, or bark at every single noise they hear, or otherwise be disobedient and disruptive.

One of the most important aspects of dog obedience training is to socialize the dog properly.  A lot of people make the mistake in thinking that by keeping their dog at home this will make them more polite and obedient but this is actually not the case.  Then you’ll find if you ever go to take them to the vet or even just out for a walk in the park, they won’t know how to behave properly and will try running after people or animals.  Socialization techniques should begin as early in a dog’s life as possible for the best results, because just like with a child this is the time in their life when they are a sponge and taking everything in.

Try to expose the dog to as many different social events and situations as possible, not only to make them comfortable around other people and animals but also just to let them enjoy life.  Another important dog obedience training tip and one that every owner should enforce is to teach the dog how to sit.  Another important dog obedience training tips involves teaching the dog to sit.  The dog should start off standing and then you want to tell them repeatedly to sit, pushing lightly on their rear if you need to give them a little help.

Find a quiet location where the dog will be able to focus, and you can either use treats or any other form of positive reinforcement which will be rewarded to the dog after they listen and comply to your order.  While the dog is standing, press lightly on their behind showing them that you want them to sit down.  You may have to repeat this over a few times, and even pat them lightly on the behind to let them know what you’re trying to say.  This must be done immediately after the dog has sat down, so they know what you’re rewarding them for.

These are just a few of the most basic dog obedience training tips.  Training a dog properly is a very rewarding experience.  It allows you both to enjoy your life together more and means less hassle and trouble for you.  It’s much more fun to have a dog around that you can praise and enjoy.
